The 2023 DeMarini Voodoo One is a color-up from the 2022 version of the bat with a claim of slight changes to the end cap to improve durability. We think this bat is wildly overrated and lacks durability for a single piece alloy. Its a good bat, sure. If you want to pay top dollar for a light swinging single piece alloy than the Voodoo One for 2023 might be the bat for you.

Models Overview

Our hitters like the single-piece feel and the light swing. The bat gets plenty of publicity so many of our hitters thought the bat was a bit too cliche for their liking. The Voodoo One series of bats has a predictably small barrel profile, but we think that actually improves the sting on mishits. In any case, the bat can hit the ball hard and in the right hitter's hands, it's really hard to get better.

Construction & Technology

The 2022 Voodoo One is a single-piece alloy bat with a light swing and a small barrel. It uses a barrel alloy called X14 (the same DeMarini has used for some years now) has a slightly redesigned end cap (so it won't break as much as previous versions) but still has a one-piece construction.

Performance Comparison

The only change from 2022 to 2023 is the colorway and a redesigned "Tracer" end cap. We suspect this was their exact change once the end cap had some durability issues. This is, effectively, the same bat from 2022 that DeMarini released late in the year except for a different paint job

Comparable Bats

The single-piece, stiffer feeling bats built for a light swing has plenty of options. We think a bat like the Slugger's new Atlas is its best competitor---it has a bigger barrel, swings light, and hits the crack out of the ball. Other bats like the Easton Alpha ALX, Marucci CAT X, and Rawlings VELO are reasonable alternatives too. However, no bat gets the pub like the Voodoo One.

Expert Recommendations

The 2023 Demarini Voodoo One is a BBCOR-only bat that is a single-piece alloy built with a light swing and a smaller barrel profile. It is unclear if they fixed any durability issues on the end cap from the 2022 version, but we expect this bat to get plenty of play. If you can find the older models for less expensive and a warranty then buy that as the bat hasn't changed for several years.

The Bottom Line

This is DeMarinis' Write up on the 2023 Voodoo One Worth its weight in gold, the 2023 Voodoo® One (-3) BBCOR Baseball Bat from DeMarini delivers the unparalleled pop players expect from its easy-swinging one-piece construction. Crafted for elite swing speed and potent exit velocities, the 2023 Voodoo One BBCOR Baseball Bat brings back its signature X14 Alloy Barrel, beloved for its groundbreaking performance. Skully’s iconic imagery and a collection of DeMarini logos decorate the X14 Alloy, and a Refined Tracer End Cap with ultra-stiff composite materials optimizes barrel performance. Voodoo One features a one-piece construction with a Reinforced Knob for a stiff feel, resulting in merciless power output and a gold mine of production at the dish.
