One of our favorite and we think most underrated bats in USSSA every year is the Marucci's F5. The 2024 version is a lot like previous years in a basic single piece alloy with a huge barrel made possible by some multi wall thickness, a great grip and top end performance.

Why We Love the 2017 DeMarini CF Zen

This 2017 DeMarini CF in a drop 5 may go down as the greatest USSSA bat of all time. If you remember, the Drop 10 version of this bat was made illegal. So, DeMarini ended up releasing a 'retooled' version of that. But, in the drop 5, inexplicably, the bat was not made illegal. So, the bat is legendary and any team who plays in serious tournaments with kids who are trying to hit the ball really really far have this bat in their bag. They end up paying a ridiculous amount for it, too.

This is Easton's feature bat in its USSSA line, and an early release for 2024 USSSA bats. We're still gathering information on the 2024 Hype Fire, but early reports are it's a rocket maker. Companies generally release bats out of their normal turn (as Easton is here) because it's got some real potential to move the market. The 2022 DeMarini ZOA in USSSA Drop 8 is a two-piece composite bat with a big barrel and moderately loaded swing. Compared to other drop 8s, it is a bit stiffer in the connection joint which gives more feedback on the hands. The two-piece composite barrel sounds great and competes with the CF, its sister bat, for space. If you want a top of the line USSSA bat in a drop 8 that is not named the CF, then the ZOA could be your best bet. (That assumes, of course, that you want to pay $50 more dollars too).

Why We Love the 2021 Marucci CAT 9 Composite

The Drop 8 Marucci CAT Composite for 2021 is everything we've ever wanted in a two-piece composite bat (aside from the price point). It swings light, has remarkable performance, feels perfect, and has a massive barrel. If any bat has put DeMarini's CF on notice that it's time to get better, this is it. We haven't had the bat long enough to know how its durability stacks up, but if it's anything better than the CF (and that shouldn't be hard), then we think the CAT 9 Composite is the best drop 8 USSSA on the market today.

The Right USSSA Bat Size

We think the right size bat is way more important than the right model bat. Never buy the wrong size in the model you or your player might believe is hottest. Our data shows that the most significant piece to determine exit speeds is the swing weight of a bat. It follows that fitting the right size to the right player is single most important piece of data to get right. You can see more on our bat size chart.

Best USSSA Bat Rumors

We don't see any major changes to the USSSA line in the short run. However, some rumors suggest we'll see a few new USSSA bats in October of 2023.

USSSA Bat Compression Data

USSSA compressions can be a distracting topic, and we're cautious about showcasing minor fluctuations in compression ratings on a device and process with its level of flux. However, for those interested, we’d instead you get this from us, who are not involved in compression bat sales, knowing we aren’t trying to manipulate it to show a specific outcome or imply a particular result. Note that these are all drop 10 bats with varying degrees of “worked in.”
