What is the quick review?
The 2022 True Temper HZRDUS is a hybrid bat with a seamless connection built with a slight endload. The bat comes in BBCOR and USSSA in a drop 10, 8 and 5. The at competes with others in the hybrid space, like The Goods from DeMarini, Select PWR from Slugger and the CAT 9 Connect from Marucci. True Temper's pitch is the right bat fitting--and each of the different models of the 2022 HZRDUS come in half inch sizes. The drop 10 USSSA, for example, has nine different SKUs (29, 29.5, 30, 30.5, 31, 31.5, 32, 32.5, 33). No other USSSA bat has as many options.
What models and sizes are available?
Our hitters like the look, load and sizing options. The bat has a great feel and design and most players pick it up thinking it is a high end bat. It doesn't look cheap because it isn't (at $300 for USSSA to $350 for BBCOR) it demands prices other more established bat lines also want. We are also big fans of the sizing options. While it is difficult to know exactly how to dial in the right half size, our hitters liked that those options were available and want to know how they swing half inch sizes.
How is it built?
The 2022 True Temper HZRDUS is a two piece hybrid bat with a mild endload. That is, it uses a composite handle and an alloy barrel with a swing weight that is higher, but not that much higher, than average.
It's most unique feature is the seamless connection between the handle and barrel. If you were not told it was a hybrid, you would not know. The bat connection piece (or lackthereof) is an adaptation of the golf shaft drivers that True Sports makes in their golf division. True claims to be able to still dial in the flex although the bat looks like a one piece. The idea is that less connection parts give more freedom to develop a barrel profile and dialed in swing weight.
How does it compare?
This is the first year of the 2022 HZRDUS. True Temper came on the scene in 2019 just in time for a worldwide pandemic. But, they're back with the HZRDUS line and ready to compete with the big boys in this first year release of the 2022 HZRDUS.
