Combat Spec A1 Review: All Colorways & Editions

The Spec A1 is a BBCOR -3, one-piece alloy platform. Our catalog currently has 30 active A1 editions across eight groups: Original, Country Club, Rodeo, Performance, Outdoor, Cookie Jar, Coastal, and Steel Horses. Active catalog coverage includes announced editions and does not mean every bat has launched or every size is in stock.

The collection headings above keep every edition and image together. Original includes Cookies and Cream, Mint Militia, Sandstorm, Sandstorm Anniversary, and Shadowcast. Country Club includes Aces Go Long, Aces Swing Easy, and Acres. Rodeo includes Mess With the Bull, Greatest Show on Dirt, Not My First Rodeo, Saddle Up, Work to Shine, and Arena Cowboy. Performance includes BAJA, RACER, and STANG. Outdoor includes Big Barrels, Shooters Shoot, and The Hunter. Cookie Jar includes Cookies N Cream, Cookie Monster, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Crumb Reaper. Coastal adds JAWS, MAVERICKS, and NAZARE. Steel Horses adds Red Rider, Blue Biker, and Leather Horses.

Catalog years remain attached to each bat for identification; they do not imply a new A1 platform every season. The original Cookies and Cream and the later Cookie Jar Cookies N Cream are separate catalog editions. Original Sandstorm CBB5SAS3 and Sandstorm Anniversary CBB6SAND3 are also separate editions. Spec H1 hybrids, including Coastal ULUWATU and the Steel Horses H1 companion, are excluded from the 30 A1 editions.

Steel Horses: Red Rider, Blue Biker, and Leather Horses

These three cosmetic A1 editions have two names in retailer listings. Red Rider / Firing On All Cylinders is CBB7A1RR3; Blue Biker / The Road Less Traveled is CBB7A1BB3 (the bat's printed motto uses "Travelled"); Leather Horses / Iron Sharpens Iron is CBB7A1BT3. Match the code to avoid treating the slogan as a second model. Each is listed as BBCOR -3, one-piece alloy, with 31, 32, 33, 33.5, and 34-inch options.

Upcoming release: As checked October 9, 2026, COMBAT announces October 14 for its direct drop, while the exact-SKU JustBats pages say October 15, 2026 at 9 a.m. CT. The official FAQ puts retailer availability the following day. These are channel-specific dates. Our catalog uses the 2027 model year found in Longball titles; those pages also say release year 2026, and Smash It Sports labels Red Rider 2026. None of those year labels establishes another A1 generation.

Crumb Reaper, Sandstorm Anniversary, and Shadowcast

Cookie Jar Crumb Reaper CBB6BCRM3 is cataloged as 2026, matching COMBAT's release-year field. Sandstorm Anniversary CBB6SAND3 is the numbered 1,029-bat edition, separate from the original 500-bat Sandstorm CBB5SAS3. We catalog the Anniversary as 2026 following retailer model titles; COMBAT lists its release year as 2025, one year after the original's October 29, 2024 drop. JustBats has a conflicting 500-unit Anniversary bullet; COMBAT and the retailer's fuller description agree on 1,029.

Shadowcast CBB5SASC3 is the black-on-black A1 edition. COMBAT's reserve listing uses DPWCBB5SASC3; that is an alias, not an additional edition. Our 2025 catalog year follows the retailer account, but COMBAT's reserve page says Year Released 2024. The original launch year remains unresolved. All three older additions were sold out at COMBAT when checked October 9, 2026; retailer and resale availability may differ.

Assessment limits: These six additions use the existing A1 platform assessment provisionally. We have not separately measured their performance, swing weight, or durability, and the reviewed product sources do not confirm a performance redesign. Listed sizes and advertised balanced feel are source specifications, not fresh Bat Digest measurements.

The Spec A1 is a one-piece alloy BBCOR bat with a stiff, balanced feel. Retailer specifications describe Combat's SFX barrel. We have not established a construction or performance upgrade for a particular colorway. Coastal JAWS, MAVERICKS, and NAZARE are sold as A1 bats; ULUWATU combines an alloy barrel with a composite handle and belongs to the two-piece H1 family.

This review covers the A1 editions cataloged as 2025, 2026, and 2027. The documented differences are graphics, model codes, and available sizes; our reviewed sources do not establish a year-over-year platform redesign. Treat the catalog year as an identifier, not proof of a performance upgrade. Steel Horses is a 2026 release cataloged as 2027; Sandstorm Anniversary is a 2025 release cataloged as 2026. Shadowcast's original release year remains unresolved between the official 2024 field and retailer 2025 account. Coastal and the six added editions have not received separate performance, swing-weight, or durability testing.

Useful one-piece BBCOR alloy cross-shops include the Louisville Slugger Atlas, Rawlings Clout AI, and DeMarini Voodoo One. Compare price, swing feel, and the size you can actually buy. For a two-piece Combat option, use our Spec H1 review, which includes Coastal ULUWATU.
