The 2025 Easton Dub Drop 5 is a two-piece composite USSSA bat made for stronger, more advanced hitters (ages 13+) prepping for BBCOR. It has a noticeably end-loaded swing and is built to move the ball if you can handle it. Same Double Barrel setup, same claimed stiffer connection, and the same handle Easton says improves flex and feel. It might, but we’re not betting the farm on it yet.

You get some added durability and power compared to the drop 5 but aren't left to swing an overly heavy bat (the drop 5) which we think is built for the YouTube influencer market.

It's built for the powerful 10 to 11 year old or the 12 and 13 year old that still get to use USSSA Bats. While other bats are more popular, the Easton Hype Comp in a drop 5 is a banger, no doubt. It is a 2 3/4 barrel, not a 2 5/8. So, make sure your league allows it.

Compared to other drop 8s, it is a bit stiffer in the connection joint which gives more feedback on the hands. The two-piece composite barrel sounds great and competes with the CF, its sister bat, for space. This is the same as the 2022 DeMarini ZOA but with a unique and updated paint job.

This 2017 DeMarini CF in a drop 5 may go down as the greatest USSSA bat of all time. If you remember, the Drop 10 version of this bat was made illegal. So, DeMarini ended up releasing a 'retooled' version of that. But, in the drop 5, inexplicably, the bat was not made illegal. So, the bat is legendary and any team who plays in serious tournaments with kids who are trying to hit the ball really really far have this bat in their bag. They end up paying a ridiculous amount for it, too.

The drop 8 version is the big barrel, heavier swing, and fantastic feel on a somewhat durable bat that is legendary in the USSSA space. In most public minds, the only real competitor is the USSSA CAT 9 Composite or Meta in a drop 8.

The Drop 8 Marucci CAT Composite for 2021 is everything we've ever wanted in a two-piece composite bat (aside from the price point). It swings light, has remarkable performance, feels perfect, and has a massive barrel. If any bat has put DeMarini's CF on notice that it's time to get better, this is it. We haven't had the bat long enough to know how its durability stacks up, but if it's anything better than the CF (and that shouldn't be hard), then we think the CAT 9 Composite is the best drop 8 USSSA on the market today.

The drop 8 in Louisville Sluggers 2021 Meta line is a near-perfect bat. In fact, we can't think of anything we would change other than the price. It's got a huge barrel, swings light enough for that bigger drop 10 kid in the 10U and 11U space can wield it without issue, feels fantastic, and can hit the ball with the best of them. When all is said and done, we think this might be the best drop 8 USSSA bat for 2021---although bats like the CF and Marucci CAT 9 are right there too.

If you struggle with the durability in the drop 10 CF, then your answer might be the drop 8 version of the 2021 DeMarini CF. There are no changes between the 2020 and 2021 CF. As always, the drop 8 is a moderately balanced, big barrel two-piece composite bat. The semif-flexible handle feels just like most kids want it to. The swing weight is right in line with the average of drop 8 bats on the market. If you can swing a drop 8 then it will be hard to find another bat you like more than the drop 8 2021 DeMarini CF.

The 2022 Louisville Slugger Meta in a drop 8 looks to be a fantastic choice for the player that has a high budget, wants the best Slugger can offer and needs a big barrel with a moderately light swing. The bat gets high praise from anyone who tries it. Although many prefer the CF or Marucci CAT Composite, the Slugger Meta USSSA is a reasonable choice for any considering a high end drop 8. It's a two piece composite with an absolutely massive barrel.

The 2020 DeMarini CF defines the space as to what a USSSA drop 10 should feel, sound and perform like. While bats like the CAT 9 get a lot of play too, the CF still dominates the space. Although the bat is not as durable as many would hope, most are fine with a bat that performs as well as this does, feels as good as it does and has the barrel profile the CF does. All our hitters love the bat and, without fail, put it in their top 2 of 2020 USSSA bats.

The Drop 10 Marucci CAT Composite for 2021 is a fantastic bat. The only thing it is missing is a 32 and 27-inch version. Other than that, it gives DeMarini's CF for its money. If the bat can hold up to its durability claims, it might surpass the CF as the best drop 10 on the market. As always, we wish it was cheaper, but it isn't an unheard of price. This is an easy win for us, and, again, if it can be durable, the bat will be one of our favorite USSSA drop 10's on the market---maybe even our most favorite.

The 2021 drop 5 Marucci CAT 9 is a few bats that can compete with the drop 5 DeMarini CF. The CAT 9 feels great and hits the crap out of the ball. It has a balanced swing, about like the CF. It's the biggest difference is the stiffness of contact. There's more feedback in this bat than in the CF---which is ultra-smooth. So, if you want a stiff feeling, drop 5 bats with a good barrel, great user ratings, and price point to save you a few bucks (compared to the CF), then this is your bat. We'd love to see it in a 29-inch and/or 33-inch, but not every bat can be perfect.

This is the most popular drop 8 on the market due, at least in part, to its price point, player ratings, and brand name status. We love the bat and recommend it to anyone looking to size up from a drop 10 or who wants to try a single piece bat for the first time. It's one of the best-rated bats on the planet. There are two things wrong with the 2021 DeMarini CF in a drop 10 USSSA. First, it's not cheap. Second, it isn't the most durable bat out there. Other than that, the bat is, dare we say, perfect. The feel, the barrel size, and performance are all as good as it gets. To the first problem, though, there is no fixing that. Other bats demand that price, and we always wish things were cheaper. To the second problem, the bat has become more durable over the years. It doesn't break like the 2016/17 version, that is for sure. But, there is always a close play between performing at the max limit and being durable. Our best suggestion to fix the durability issue is to see if going to the drop 8 will be a better fit. The drop 8 is more durable.

We think the Drop 8 is the sweet spot of the USSSA Victus line and would push most in that direction if they can swing it. After a half dozen baseball players used the stick in a game and another half dozen in the cage, the general feedback we received on the Swag was overwhelmingly positive. Many of those same players have also used the Dirty South War bat and consider the Swag a better bat due to the softer grip, larger barrel, and, potentially, the fact it is the 'newer' version. From a more clinical perspective, the bat's increase in barrel size from the War is noticeable in the drop 10 and drop 12 versions and worth the upgrade. The standard grip does have more cushion when compared to the War. The long barrel of the Swag bat reminds us a lot of the 2015 Combat Maxum---which is a very good bat of which to be reminded.

Well, we dare say they've done it. The 2021 Marucci CAT 9 Composite in a drop 5 is the first bat we've swung in a while that puts the DeMarini CF on notice. Maybe not as good as the CF in feel (hence the 9.4 score instead of a perfect 10), but oh so close. If you're looking for a different take on a drop 5 that isn't called the CF, then we think the Marucci CAT 9 Composite will do you justice. Light swing, huge barrel, fantastic feel, and exit speeds that rival the best in the business. Our hitters liked the drop 5 more than any other drop 5.

If you want a more durable option of a bat that isn't called the Marucci CAT 9 Connect, then the drop 10 USSSA Victus Nox is a legit choice.

The drop 5 The Goods in USSSA for DeMarini is a big-hitting bat built exactly like the amazingly popular BBCOR The Goods. However, with a bit of a lighter swing weight but the USSSA tramp on the barrel, the thing is a rocket maker. Thsoe looking close at CF in a drop 5 but want a little more stiffness in the connection piece, more like BBCOR bats, should really like this 2022 DeMarini The Goods in BBCOR. Note: the drop 10 version of this bat is much different in end cap, barrel make up and connection piece. They should probably be considered two different bat lines they are so different. But, alas, they are not.

We like the drop 8 version better than the drop 10 as we think that extra weight gives you as much power as USSSA allows. Those who can swing a drop 8, or those 31/32 drop 10 players looking at an Axe Avenge Pro should consider the drop 8 in a 30 or 31. We think the Axe Avenge Pro is the best Axe Avenge USSSA bat to date and worth the upgrade. We wish they had this bat in a drop 5 and added a 33/25 for USSSA, but maybe next year---when covid hasn't ruined all our lives.

Marucci is on a two year cycle with tech but a one year cycle with color ups. The Vanta in USSSA is a sort of blackout version of the CAT X from 2023 which did remarkably well.

Its a single piece bat so really built for that strong kid who likes a lot of stiffness in their barrel and can wield it well enough. Marucci's CAT 9 Connect in a drop 10 USSSA is an absolute fire bat. We love the big barrel, light swing, performance and price. We also love durability compared to some two-piece composites---although we did slightly dent the barrel on the drop 10. Generally, we think the drop 8 is a better choice if you can swing it. We'd rather drop an inch and add those two ounces (like from a 31/21 to a 30/22). But, if you're in the 29/19 or 30/20 world, the CAT 9 Connect might be the best overall value bat on the market.

Armed with a new end cap and connection point for 2022, the DeMarini The Goods USSSA Drop 10 hopes to make some inroads in a niche dominated by two-piece composite bats. It has a heavier swing for most drop 10's, but DeMarini added a lighter end cap this year to bring it into the normal range. Our guess is most kids will like the bat, but not by enough to put down their CF. However, the kid who wants an alloy barrel on a model with fantastic recognition could really like the 2022 Demarini The Goods USSSA in a drop 10. Also, although the same name as the drop 5, the bats differ a lot and shouldn't be considered changes in swing weight only.

There's a lot to learn about the new and redesigned 2022 Rawlings Quatro Pro. A stiffer feel and a more consistent barrel are what the USSSA form 2021 was lacking, so these improvements might be a welcome change. The added knob tech that allows for a blast motion (sold separately) to insert seamlessly in the bat is also a nice touch. But the CF and CAT 9 Composite have run away with this field. The added ZOA from DeMarini only makes it more difficult, but we do expect to see the Quatro Pro for 2022 make some headway in 2022. We'll update this as more information comes to light.

The drop 5 DeMarini CF is a legendary bat. Since 2017 it has been killing balls. Our exit speed tests showed the drop 5 2021 is as good as any USSSA drop 10 CF now or since. This bat, like the drop 10, also has some complaints about durability. But, we don't believe it breaks more than any other two-piece composite bat in the USSSA drop 5 space. We'd recommend you buy the bat with a warranty. And, if you can swing a drop 5 in USSSA then this one is as good as any. The drop 5 33/28 is a big boys bat and can hit the ball harder than any other baseball bat on the 2021 market of any league.

Our hitters liked the drop 8 more than the drop 10. That added weight balance really helped to dampen the sting on mishit balls. But, to be sure, we wouldn't recommend the drop 8 if it were the wrong size. Although more expensive than we like to see single piece alloy bats in the USSSA youth space, we are big fans of the 2021 Drop 10 USSSA The Goods One Piece. It's got a great barrel profile, fantastic feel on hits, and good middle of the road swing weight. It has done very well in our exit speed tests, and we think it one of the better bats in the USSSA market this year. If you like single-piece bats in the drop 10 space, this one is a win. The only real downfall, aside from the fact we think it's $30 more expensive than it should be, is that it only comes in three lengths.

Note, the JBB versions of the bat are not rated for the same pitch speed as the non-JBB versions so you can expect more denting and less performance when compared to the normal drop 10. The 2022 Warstic Gunner USSSA Drop 8 is a hybrid bat with a good-sized barrel, slightly heavier than average swing weight a great feel on hits and mishits. While the hybrid market isn't very hot in the USSSA drop 8 space, if you were going to go this route then we think the Warstic Gunner is as good as any you could find.

We're usually a hard pass on a hybrid bat in the USSSA space. While this drop 10 HZRDUS doesn't change our mind completely, we still think two piece composites with their bigger barrels and lighter swings are generally better choices, if there were the hitter out there who wanted a heavier swinging with an alloy barrel then this might be it. Granted, if you wanted a heavier swing than go for the drop 8 USSSA HZRDUS. If you wanted a light swing with an alloy barrel/hybrid design then look for a bat like the True Temper Rake. Still, though, if you're looking for a drop 10 with a slight end load in an alloy barrel in the USSSA space then the HZRDUS drop 10 might be it. Or, if you really want to dial in the 1/2 options it might be a good fit too.

We think the younger hitter looking for good pop wants an ax shaped handle and smooth feel on hits and mishits like the 2021 Axe Avenge Pro. We do wish the bat came in a 26 inch for a few of the coach pitch kids and a 32-inch for those who don't want to try the drop 8 just yet. But, overall, it's a recommendable bat, and we think a reasonable improvement over the 2020 version.

The Marucci Code (-10) USSSA is a single-piece alloy with a traditional feel. It uses a multi-variable wall design to help get a bigger sweet spot. It also uses the AV2 Knob which was made famous in the earlier versions of the CAT to help dampen sting. It's a solid inexpensive bat for the USSSA player that wants metal instead of compsotie and/or wants to save a few bucks on a new bat.

Marucci's most innovative function on the bat's design is the manner in which the handle and barrel are seamed together. Unlike anyone else, Marucci uses a spiral connection to screw the bat pieces together. The idea is that more surface area connecting the barrel to the handle more easily dissipates vibration from mishits traveling from the barrel to the hands. This makes enough sense to our non-engineering minds to accept it out of hand. The idea is implemented in the 2017 CAT 7 Connect as well.

The 2018 Demarini Voodoo one is a balanced single-piece bat with a 2 3/4 reasonably sized barrel. It swings about as heavy as other drop 10 USSSA bats, does hurt your hands on mishits, but also has a stiff feel for those who really square one up. The bat has not changed much over the years and serves that entry-level performance bat space. Compared to older and newer versions of this model, the 2018 DeMarini Voodoo One is as good as any.

With one exception, we think there are many better bat options in the 'new' 2016 Easton XL3 price range for either little league (youth) or big/senior barrel sizes. That one exception? The Drop 5 2016 XL3 in the 2 5/8 size. There is simply nothing in that niche on the market. If you are in the market for a very heavy-hitting bat with a drop and undeniable feedback (i.e., hand sting) and power transfer, then the drop 5 Easton XL3 should be seriously considered.

If you're a big hitter looking for the most a Slugger Solo can deliver than this bat should be on the short list. It's an endloaded single piece alloy with a massive drop 5 feel. The bat is stiff and packs a serious punch if you can square one up. However, this bat is not for the faint of heart. We thing the drop 8 or drop 10 are much more fitting than this bat, especially for the younger player looking for as much bat speed as they can muster. If you want a light swinging drop check out a bat like the Rawlings VELO. But, if you want big stiffness on a good bat, then the SOLO is your daddy.

The 2022 Solo also comes in a JBB or Junior Big Barrel version. In effect, this bat is made for coach pitch leagues in ages from 5 to 8. The bat is not rated for higher pitch speeds, which is why it is less expensive than the drop USSSA version of the bat. It could also work perfectly fine for that new t ball player just getting a feel for the game.

The drop 8 Solo for 2022 is where it's at. If we had to choose a drop 8 but wanted to stay away from the two piece composite space in USSSA (not sure we'd ever want to, but go with us for a second) then we'd look for a bat with a lot of good historical feedback in a drop 8. The SOLO would fit that bill early and often. It's real competitors, if this is the space you're in, are the Vandal and the ALX. We'd give the edge to the Vandal, but the ALX and Solo are right there. We'd guess most cant tell a difference.

The Drop 10 Solo is our highest-rated USSSA SOLO bat mainly due to its versatility. The bat comes in a huge range of sizes (26 through 31) and with a light swing weight and has a fit for basically any 7 through 11-year-old. The bat also performs admirably. Granted, most serious players like the feel of more expensive two-piece composites and, as such, tend to swing harder and with a bit more consistency. But, the right hitter---especially that entry-level comp and travel player looking for as much bat speed as possible that also doesn't want to break the bank.

The drop 5 USSSA 2021 Louisville Slugger Solo works well for the hitter forced to use a drop 5 but still needs a light swing. The other light swinging option in a drop 5 (VELO) swings even lighter than the Solo. But, for many, the VELO is almost too light. The drop 5 Solo USSSA swings light but reasonably so. Hitters who like a stiff feel on a single piece bat, need a light swinging drop 5, or are about to size out of their drop 8 Solo should consider the drop 5. If you're swinging a drop 8 Solo in a 32-inch, we think a drop 5 in a 30 or 31 is worth considering too.

Louisville Slugger's Solo in a USSSA Drop 8 swings lighter than the drop 8 USSSA average, but not by much. This is a single-piece bat with a stiff feel and good-sized barrel. Hitters swinging a 31 or 32-inch drop 10 might find a lot of value in dropping an inch and going for the drop 8 instead. That added weight takes away some of the hand-sting and the heavier drop only adds power. Overall, the bat is a fantastic bat for the right type of hitter.

The 2021 Louisville Slugger Solo USSSA Drop 10 swings light, has a great barrel profile, and hits the ball about as well as any USSSA bat we tested. Our smaller hitters don't prefer single piece bats---instead, they like two-piece bats with a little more give in the connection and less ring on the hands. But, the hitter looking for a legit entry-level performance bat in the USSSA space, needs as much bat speed help as possible, and is good with some hand ring now and then will hit the ball as well with the Solo drop 10 as they could any bat.

Senior League 2 3/4The 2016 RIP-IT Element One is a single-piece alloy bat (ONE) made from RIP-IT's propriety alloy blend (called A4). The BBCOR version has a flared grip/knob while the Senior Barrel versions have no flare, but, compared to other bats in its class, the grip/handle feels and measures out generally larger. The barrel size is what competitive sales reps would claim the RIP-IT lacks. From a pure measurement standpoint, it's hard to disagree. But RIP-IT bats have always been committed to making a baseball that looks and feels like a baseball bat---not a boat oar. We aren't sure why the drop 10 for 2021 is now a 2 5/8 while the previous year's versions have been a 2 3/4. The bat hasn't changed in terms of its alloy and handle or end cap in the USSSA space. But, for whatever reason, it is now a 2 5/8 barrel. They dropped the drop 5 from the lineup (which was a 2 5/8). The bat still has plenty of sizes available so that's good, but they also bailed on vendor distribution (you can't find this anywhere but on Slugger's site) so it might be hard for some to find it. They also raised the price by $20 from last year. If you have not guessed yet, our suggestion would be to avoid the 2021 and buy a 2020 model. It's less expensive and has a bigger barrel.

The only person we would really recommend the 2017 Axe Element for is the person looking for a stiff single-piece alloy bat with a moderate swing weight that also doesn't want to afford the Axe Hyperwhip Fusion. We suspect that group of people to be rather small. The Fusion, at least by today's pricing, appears to cost about $100 more. It has the same barrel size, same 'asymmetricness' but an added composite end cap to help increase bat speed.

You'll have more success by searching outside the peak baseball interest times which are, roughly, August to November. If you're stuck inside the peak baseball bat buying times and have a $100 budget then we still think, if you are patient enough, could pick up a late model hybrid or single-piece performance bat for around $100.
